PREVIEW: What Is This Thing Called Love?

“dynamic, rousing”
         Talkin’ Broadway

“intensity…stirs hearts”
         Philadelphia Inquirer

Those are excerpts from reviews of Derrick Cobey, the stellar Broadway singer who will be featured in the cabaret production of What Is This Thing Called Love?, the next Rendezvous fund-raiser for The Musical Theater Project (TMTP).

On September 9, Cobey will perform a tribute to Cole Porter at the Music Box Supper Club. Proceeds will support TMTP’s arts education programs including their school outreach program Kids Love Musicals!

Cobey, one of the finest young singers of his generation, is a winner of the Barrymore Award and was in the original cast of The Scottsboro Boys on Broadway. And he has a local connection, since he is an alumnus of Baldwin-Wallace University’s outstanding Music Theatre Department.

Tickets to this show are $135 each, including dinner, with $65 tax deductible. You can also purchase a $500 subscription for the entire Rendezvous four-cabaret series ($250 tax deductible).

Founded in 2000, TMTP produces concerts, in-school residency programs, radio programming and recordings that create personal connections with the songs, characters and themes of the American musical and examine the relevance of musical theater in contemporary society.
